Monitor, Measure, Adjust and Control Your Business From Anywhere.
Learn how to monitor your progress. Track Your KPI's (Key Performance Indicators). A good way to do it is with a break-even chart generated by an automated spreadsheet. It's a mathematical device that can help you see progress (or the lack of it) in dollars and cents. By indicating your break-even volume (the point at which you neither lose or make money), you'll know how much you'll have to increase sales to generate worthwhile profits. Break-even volume is the sum of your total fixed costs (costs which do not vary with the level of business activity) divided by the selling price minus the variable cost per unit of anything you sell. Preparing a break-even analysis for all your product and service lines eliminates guess work. You'll know what to do to make a substantial profit.

Thomas Edison said, “Vision without Execution is Hallucination."
"Even in an organization that's doing something big and bold, there's the mundane, day-to-day execution work of keeping it going. But people need to stay connected to the boldness, to the vision, and stay plugged in to the main vein of the dream." - Peter Diamandis “Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion.” - Jack Welch "The founder has to learn to become the leader of a team rather than a star with helpers." - Peter Drucker
As a leader, you can influence two principal things when it comes to producing results: your strategy (or plan) and your ability to execute that strategy. Execution is the art of producing results in the context of choices you make. You need a good strategy to have good execution. Yes, having a good strategy alone isn’t enough to win, but your ability to execute well depends on how good your strategy is and how well it’s understood by everyone who makes major decisions for your business. When your business or company is not executing well, take a look at your strategy. Improving it - and your most important stakeholders’ understanding of it - may hold the key to unlocking better execution.
Without a 'Shared Vision,' everyone on the team develops their own. Unfortunately, they don’t stop there. People take action often based, not on the actual 'facts' but on the stories they imagine about the facts. Without a shared, clear, concise vision, confusion reigns. How do you develop such a vision? By including all the stakeholders in a thoughtful multi-step process of 'Smart Strategic Planning.'
Owner's Role: A business owner's job is to create jobs, not to do jobs. Your role as an owner is to produce the opportunity for people who want a good job with a good company. You set the vision and give the company strategic direction. Your system runs the business and your people run your system.
"Leadership and management are two related but distinct sets of behaviors for guiding and supporting people... Leadership emphasizes defining a vision and encouraging other people to help make that vision a reality; management focuses on creating plans and assessing performance. Leadership focuses on people; management focuses on systems, procedures, and information." - from the book 'Project Management for Dummies' by Stanley E. Portny, PMP
"The manager administers; the leader innovates. The manager has a short-range view; the leader has a long-range perspective. The manager asks how and when; the leader asks what and why. The manager has his eye on the bottom line; the leader has his eye on the horizon. The manager accepts the status quo; the leader challenges it." - Warren G. Bennis
A business that runs without your day-to-day involvement. A business that requires very little of your time. A business that you work on - instead of in it. If that's your goal, then not being at your business all the time means you'll be leading from the background and that's fine because the truth is, the best leaders are often invisible. Your role is to create a job and then get out of the way! "When the best leader's work is done the people say, 'We did it ourselves.'" ...Lau Tzu
"Given the scale of life in the cosmos, one human life is no more than a tiny blip. Each one of us is just a visitor to this planet, a guest, who will only stay for a limited time. Use this short time living a meaningful life, connecting with others and being of service to them." - Dalai Lama
"Effective leadership is putting first things first. Effective management is discipline, carrying it out." - Stephen Covey. “The secret of leadership is simple: Do what you believe in. Paint a picture of the future. Go there. People will follow.” - Seth Godin. "A Leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." - John C. Maxwell
"Purpose is what makes work meaningful. It is a contribution to society - not a product or service." - Sheila Margolis, PhD.
"Leadership is strategic, and management is more [about] implementation. Leadership is about setting direction, knowing where you want to go, convincing others to go with you, and explaining why you're going there: setting standards, setting expectations, setting tone.
Management is about implementing that: getting the processes right, getting the people right, getting the teams right." - Zanny Minton Beddoes, editor in chief, The Economist
